“Rest Day” ~ A leisurely fifteen kilometre early morning spin after coffee and a bite to eat. Rolled by the Governor’s mansion just off of Town Mountain Road where I saw some creative serpentine road sign redesign. Back home for more coffee and full breakfast. Then eighty-five kilometres at 21 kph throught town over to West Asheville and into the countryside to Enka Village and Beaverdam. The view from this bridge tempted me to dip in the cold river with the kid who was cooling off while his mom soaked her feat. But instead, the group carried on through the valley and over the ridge eventually looping back to town. A shower and a cold beer then downtown for fish tacos in an old industrial area beside the French Broad River. All rested up for tomorrow’s climb from the river valley in Asheville to the summit of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak on the continent east of the Mississippi.
