April Showers of freezing rain, sleet, snow and a Nor’Easter howling off of Kempenfelt Bay driving tiny daggers into my face and pointing the Canadian flag opposite its prevailing direction. The husky in Dano loved it. The icy desolation at a normally joyfully bustling Centennial Park is a clear indication that townfolk have hunkered down at home until this Ice-mageddon leaves town. Flags at the end of Victoria Street are halfmast for Humboldt. Dano lifts a leg against a tree, melting some ice; but not fast enough. Did the guy who stickered that sign do so with irony in mind? Two Canada Geese blown upstream stopped only by the solid ice on Dyment Creek. One warm day in May or June we’ll wake up and this April will just be a bad dream that July will hopefully make us forget.
