All last week the four young ones were alone in the Nest and relied on mom and dad to bring them lots of juicy worms, dropping them into their gaping beaks, from which they grew even bigger. By Sunday, the four of them were spilling out of the Nest as they tried resting for their imminent maiden flight. Monday two had found their way from the Nest, leaving lots of elbow room for the remaining siblings. Tuesday morning, another took flight and the lonely robin enjoyed most of the day with the house to itself. When I arrived home after work on Tuesday, he was standing confidently on the Nest’s edge contemplating his departure. Shortly after dinner he was gone, leaving only a small, single turd in the Nest. With the bittersweet feeling of Empty-nesters, Chris, Nick and I are again using the front door as the main entrance to our “nest”. We’ll miss the Robins but we’re grateful we were able to spend these few weeks living so closely together.
