Morning Bike Ride ~ Mid April is still pretty early in the season for 6am rides however, four of us were determined to unofficially start the local Cycling Club’s Thursday morning ride instead of waiting another month for its official start. The forecast was 50% probability of precipitation, which I always interpret and 50% probability of dry roads. So, I headed out early with blinky lights ablaze into the dark morning. As I drifted down from my house towards the Lakefront, between the neighborhood rooftops, I saw a pregnant Gibbous Moon hanging in the scattered clouds on the Western horizon. The mild Spring air suddenly chilled as I rolled onto Lakeshore Drive, with the ice covered Bay generating tons of natural “air conditioning”. Riding North along the deserted street, I kept my eye on the Magnificent Moon that silently lit my way. Crossing over Bunker’s Creek bridge suddenly revealed an almost surreal view of my favourite celestial body. I quickly stopped, crossed the median and dumped my bike in the grass to try and capture the scene. The Lakeshore Drive streetlights behind me lit up the dry, golden tallgrass around the pond as the cold, stark commercial lights on Bradford Street glared back at me. And in between, that Magnificent Moon cast a glow on the clouds in the dark Western sky while reflecting off of the still waters of the pond in Bunker’s Creek. This spectacle made the early alarm clock completely worthwhile, even if my Ride had ended right there. Magnificent. Moon.
