This is Rip ‘n’ Dip weather! I love this heat. No photos during the ride as I was pretty focused on riding hard. However, I still made some observations as I was pedalling:

– I thrive in the heat. My fastest solo rides are always on very hot days.

– Big efforts are a very satisfying pain. It’s almost masochistic.

– Force of Drag (air resistance) increase exponentially as your speed increases. When it’s high humidity, drag is even worse. The faster you go, the harder it gets.

– I *really* enjoy riding by “feel”. No data to consider except time and distance. I think it allows me to dig deeper than if I was regulating my effort by power, heartrate and cadence. It also explains why I have such an erratic pace. But it feels really good! And I love the simplicity of it.

– Riding fast narrows my view of my surroundings. It’s like the tunnel narrows the bigger the effort, until all I see is my front wheel and the line of road I’m on.

– I love riding solo. It’s very satisfying to know that the results of my ride are all mine. My mental and physical endurance alone are what got me to the finish. It’s pretty pure. I like that.
