Serendipity ~ A last-minute Friday date night with Mom was really enjoyable! The downtown is beautifully lit up for the Holidays. The cold calm air was a great complement to the cozy outdoor fireplaces at Meridian Place where we enjoyed sitting down, warming ourselves and chatting with the City employee who dropped by every hour or so to put some logs on the fire. Several young families were out as well with the young children marvelling at the colourfully lit trees and surroundings. As we got up to leave, we bumped into Terry, an old neighbour from my childhood home! We chatted for a while getting updates on his daughters and grandchildren. After hitting the bank we had a wonderful dinner at Il Buco Ristorante. A bustling dining room with lots of laughter, good food, no screens and no background music, just good company all around. Waiters who belted out Happy Birthday in classic Italian opera style were impressive and enjoyable to hear. A very unique experience! With out bellies full and our toes warmed we walked back to the car through Heritage Park where the city lights reflected magically off of the calm surface of the Bay on one side and off of the frozen pond on the other. Downtown Barrie is becoming a wonderfully welcoming place to spend the evening.
