The Weekend ~ With my commute now consisting of about ten steps from the kitchen to my laptop on the dining room table, the defining line between work and play is getting blurred. It is further obfuscated when a weekend family social occurs on a Zoom video call, the prospect of which I initially wasn’t looking forward to after spending two thirds of my working hours in similar WebEx meeting! However, the virtual family social was thoroughly enjoyable, the technology effectively hosting what may have otherwise been an incoherent cacophony. It was so great to see the faces of family members from across the county and across the border and hear how this pandemic has altered their daily routines and how they’re coping. This will be the “new normal” for a while…
Meanwhile, outside our viral safe-house, Mother Nature marches merrily along. Momma Robin has begun building her annual nest on our front door ornament which I carefully moved to a fixed wall on the other side of the front porch where we can easily view Her progress from our bay window, should she accept the forced relocation. And after a couple of sunny days, the crocuses in our front yard have pushed their way up through the dead and dry ground cover to greet the Springtime air. Beautiful signs that, despite a devastating global pandemic, life carries on as usual. In the big picture, this difficult time will be but a bump in the road and humanity will adapt and overcome, continuing to thrive stronger than ever and hopefully with a greater appreciation for the simple things that truly add value to our lives.
