Worstenbroodjes

Ever since I was a young boy, baking this traditional Dutch Christmas treat has been a fun, family experience. It’s a lot of busy work but a lot of fun, with everyone chipping in to do their part in the production process. This year, Mikayla had her first experience helping us make the dough and put things in the oven. The scrumptious scent of dough rising and worstenbroodjes baking in the oven filled the house with the smells of the season and our minds with fond memories of Christmas’ past as carols played joyfully in the background. Some special family time, as four generations shared this tradition!

three generations making the dough
Leah’s in mass-production mode!
Oma and Nick watching the worsters rise on the wood stove before baking
Jordyn enjoying her first Christmas prep with Opa
ya gotta look fierce when punching down the dough!
some special time with Oma Oma, Jordyn’s great grandma

ahhh… so worth all the hard work!
