Labour Day Weekend ~ Life’s simple pleasures cannot be under estimated. A natural environment, good friends, good food and some time to acknowledge and appreciate the little things in life that we tend to miss most days as our busy lives distract us from simply living. Thanks Jackie and Mike for sharing this.

Usually we head down to the Lakefront for a ride. It’s an almost automatic and involuntary direction that we resisted today. Instead, we decided to climb up Leacock hill from Mom’s place and then coasted down towards Sunnidale Park. There we parked at the Arboretum and had a long walk through the trees that have…

The pungent smell of skunk woke me up in the middle of the night only to find a glaring August Full Moon shining on our street. It’s glow lit up the street scene in front of me and the still water in the bird bath provided an interesting lunar locus.

The Sun. The gift that keeps on giving (on so many levels). Yet another pedal-stopping Sunrise over our beautiful Bay. This photo shows the calm before the storm of the 4-man 100k Time Trial that blew out of Barrie Country Club at 7am today. These masochistic men made it happen today – 39.1 kph average!…

Beautiful Sunset today as I cooled off in the Bay after a nice long evening ride with a great group. Here’s a shot with the Moon and the Sunset simultaneously! Perfect.

When I’m Eighty-Four… Mom gets to bake her cake and eat it, too! I picked her up for a tandem ride across town, through Kempenfest and back to our house where she is baked her own birthday cake. Happy Birthday, Mom! I hope I’m still pedaling a two-wheeler when I’m eighty-four.

No more Sunrises to see on the way to meet-up for our early Friday ride, only Twilight that provided a beautiful backdrop to my favourite deserted (Allandale) train station. A little further down the road I enjoyed the early morning Sun over Lake Simcoe followed by Morning Dip at Centennial Beach where the carnival was…

Slow Sunrise ~ I rode around the Bay very slowly this morning taking in some of the beauty there and watching the other people enjoying the Lake and Shore at such an early hour, making the most of a Summer day.

The Sun is rising later now, so all I get to see over Kempenfelt Bay as I’m on my way to the BCC Thursday Morning Sunrise Ride is the twilight. I did manage to capture the Sun rising over the Hickling Farm a bit later on, as we rode up Line 1. The Sun is…

This is Rip ‘n’ Dip weather! I love this heat. No photos during the ride as I was pretty focused on riding hard. However, I still made some observations as I was pedalling: – I thrive in the heat. My fastest solo rides are always on very hot days. – Big efforts are a very…

Some other photographs from Hairshirt North 2019. Some very beautiful countryside and lakes on this route! We’re lucky to live where we do.

~ Hairshirt North 2019 ~ The first of what I plan to make an annual tradition. Hairshirt (noun): “self-imposed punishment, suffering, sacrifice, or penance”. For cyclists, that’s a double-century or two-hundred miles in a day. I planned this “punishment” to showcase to participants, the beauty of the lakes and wetlands in Simcoe County. Thank you…

July First ~ Chris shares her birthday with Canada each year so often we have a family gathering at out house to celebrate. This year that just wasn’t in the cards which left the long weekend open to a wide variety of activities that were quite enjoyable in the beautiful weather. Some of it I…

A paddler heads to the middle of the placid Bay to catch the Sunrise.

Lake Simcoe’s Kempenfelt Bay and Carthew Bay provide an amazing azure scene that one can enjoy while tracing the shorelines on a two-wheeler. And in the end, the blue Bay cools you off as the afternoon Sun bathes you in its warmth. We are lucky to live here.

humansofnewyork: “Honestly I just fell into it. I started as an engineering major. Then one night I was slaving over my physics homework, while my roommate sipped tea on the couch and read a novel. So I decided to be an English major like her. Ten years later I’m working as a copywriter at an…

Of course, for some people, every day is Bicycle Day! Acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health, the General Assembly decided to declare 3…

~ letter to my siblings and mother ~ “Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day” ~ Time by Pink Floyd So the battery finally died after almost 4 years. So I replaced it today. Earlier this week Mom had read Dad’s maintenance log (like he had in all his clocks) and told…

It’s pretty rare to see a macaw riding a bike but heading across town after work on Friday, I met Jessica. This beautiful bird was enjoying a ride down at the Waterfront with Les. As they passed, I couldn’t help but ask the man if I could take a picture. They readily obliged and after…

Recently, getting into the routine of early morning bike rides on Thursday mornings has granted me some spectacular views of our Sun rising over the Bay. Not normally being an early riser, these views are pretty rare to me, so when I see a particularly stunning Sunrise, I am compelled to stop for a few…

Terrific Twilight ~ Once again, if my Ride had ended here this morning after only four minutes, it still would’ve been worth it. Terrific.

Last week as I rolled past the Tiffin Street boat launch on Kempenfelt Bay, I heard clear voices over the still waters of the bay. The Barrie Rowing Club was out training in the early morning as the Sun peaked over the horizon. I snapped several frames as they moved effortlessly through the calm water…

Three Little Posers ~ Nicolas, Rachel, Leah. Circa 1997 & 2019. Posed, printed, framed and gifted to Chris and me on our Thirtieth anniversary. Morning Bike Ride ~ Mid April is still pretty early in the season for 6am rides however, four of us were determined to unofficially start the local Cycling Club’s Thursday morning ride instead of waiting another month for its official start.
