Just about every year in late April, sometimes early May, Mother Nature throws a snowstorm at Southern Ontario, or regionally within. It shouldn’t surprise us but I for one, always think to myself, “Really!??” After more than five months of dark Winter weather, I am anxiously awaiting the first nice spring day with a warm Sun…

A friend’s recent reference to “Murder Most Foul”, piqued my interest and I stumbled across this very recently released Dylan song that is sure to become a classic, like McLean’s American Pie, at least in a lyrical sense. So many American pop culture references… Released for free on YouTube on March 27, 2020. How did…

The Weekend ~ With my commute now consisting of about ten steps from the kitchen to my laptop on the dining room table, the defining line between work and play is getting blurred. It is further obfuscated when a weekend family social occurs on a Zoom video call, the prospect of which I initially wasn’t…

This pandemic causes us all to sacrifice more than we ever would have imagined of our regular lives. Never take what you have for granted.

Lots of solo rides and runs in the last couple of weeks. Few people around town is a sign of the times as are some of the other signs around us. I find that getting outside helps me clear my thoughts and stretch my legs after sitting in front of my screen at home all…

An unsettling quiet around town as I was running at rush hour today. A few people out but not many. As I ran down the completely empty train platform, a pleasant monotone female voice announced over the speakers a reminder to wash hands, sneeze into elbow, keep distance, etc… to nobody. It felt like a…

COVID Coping ~ After a whole week of self-isolation and working from home involving a focus largely on the COVID-19 crisis, I stepped out of the fray for a few hours by getting outside on my two-wheeler, despite the sub-zero temperature. It was cold but the sun was shining, the sky was blue, traffic was…

humansofnewyork: “It started with a heavy chest. Then I began to have a fever and dry cough. They’re doing car tests in Minnesota, but I didn’t have a car. So I ended up walking to the ER. They put me in isolation. I wasn’t even allowed to use the restroom so I had to pee…

wonders-of-the-cosmos: This image shows the region in infrared light, which has longer wavelengths than visible light and can pierce through the dusty material that usually obscures the nebula’s inner regions. The result is a rather ethereal and fragile-looking structure, made of delicate folds of gas — very different to the nebula’s appearance in visible light. …

Copeland Forest ski with brother Ben ~ As the frigid Arctic air was blown out by a South wind, the morning Sun continued to shine until the clouds rolled in just as we drove home. We enjoyed pretty much perfect conditions in the forest with others skiing, snowshoeing and fat-biking. Making the most of Winter…

The old Allandale Station appeared to be on fire as I walked home passing behind it heading towards the GO station tunnel. The snowflakes in the air above the station accentuated the glow of the floodlights on the front of the building adding to the illusion of the old structure burning from within.

Smells like Mothballs ~ It was a cold, crisp Arctic tundra-like Sunrise over Kempenfelt Bay that I saw on my way to work this morning. An equally remarkable Sunset as I rode home from work. So great to be seeing the Sun regularly again as the Winter days get longer. For some reason I caught…

Faith and I headed out for a stroll with Maple as soon as I got to their house so that we’d still get to see the Sun before it set. We were rewarded with some spectacular colours in the clouds as the last of it’s fiery rays peaked over the horizon before being extinguished in…

RIP flight PS752 – the world is an unfair place… Biking around town on a rainy January day for some groceries and errands provided some beautiful photo ops on an otherwise ugly day. Pepsi Publicity ~ In 1979 this Sandinista throws a Pepsi bottle Molotov cocktail. Five years later Michael Jackson’s hair catches fire while shilling for Pepsi. Coincidence? I think not. There’s no such thing as bad publicity. If only PepsiCo paid the Sandinista rebel as handsomely as they did the King of Pop. 😉

2019 on Two Wheels to Nowhere ~ As we approach the day when the calendar turns the final page on 2019, I have plenty of spare holiday time to mull over both the mundane commutes and epic adventures of the past twelve months of riding my two-wheelers.
