‘Stuttgart 21’ is an estimated nine billion euro infrastructure project to expand and move the central railway station completely underground. Budget overruns, protests, environmental concerns and delays haven’t stopped construction that currently has this downtown park across from my hotel looking more like an open pit mine. In the long run it’s probably the right thing to do, taking vehicles off the congested roads and linking the city into the European train network.
